The other day I started reading Ben Hogan’s famous golf instruction book “Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf” and he mentioned that he used to record notes after every practice session to remember what he worked on. I’ve often thought about doing this, but I was too lazy and to disorganized to write anything down. I’ve taken decent notes after many of the lessons I’ve had over the past few years, but they reside in a green notebook on my desk at work…not too useful!
The purpose of this blog is for me to do exactly what Ben Hogan did. Almost every time I hit balls on the range I develop some sort of thought or motion that “worked.” By the time I get to the course or back to the range I’ve most likely forgotten what I worked on and what worked.
As of the creation of this blog, 7/31/2008, my handicap index is 8.4. Unless I post a decent score in the next week or so it will go up to about 9. 12 months ago my index was below 6 even though I feel like I have a much better understanding of the golf swing today.
By posting to this blog I hope to get back to that level of 2007 and beyond. Who knows…maybe I’ll even post videos of my swing to monitor the progress and get feedback from others.
